I've had opportunities to kayak and explore new places,
some that I'd like to visit time and time again. Here are a sampling:

L
aDue Reservoir - Geauga County, Ohio, USA

Being a protected reservoir for drinking water, LaDue has been a favorite place that offers wide stretches of water and intimate meandering shorelines. Only non-gasoline powered boats are permitted making this a quiet and clean habitat. Beaver, musk rat, and Bald Eagle are home to this area. Low water levels are common during summer, often leaving a receeded shoreline.

I've been coming to this body of fresh water for over 20 years; sailing a small dingy and more than ever, kayaking. Parts are quite shallow in the late summer months, so spring is the time to enjoy its far reaching tributaries. When the water level is up in the spring, I like to take the southeastern channel to the dam and as far as I can go through the culverts into an intimate lush oaisis. If you're lucky, you might see a yellow biplane fly overhead down the channel.

Summer is great anytime; day or night. The southwestern side meanders in areas that are best explored in the spring before the waters are choked with lilypads.

The fall can be especially exciting with the turning of the autumn leaves and seasonal aroma. The long shadows and cooler temperatures are something to look forward too.

Full moon "paddles" have made this a special place during the spring, summer and fall seasons. There have been times when a spectacular sunset to the west is echoed with a magnificant moonrise to the east. Eager to get on the water
, its usually a time full of energy that is slowly replaced with inner peace, tranquility and introspection.

When the air becomes cooler than the water, a layer of fog forms over the surface, creating an errie feeling of paddling in a cloud. This is, for most evenings, the icing on the cake.

Quiet obsevations of the environment take place as dusk disolves into night. We shun any
artificial light as our eyes adjust to our monochromatic world.
